Summer Art Camp - Virtual!

In an effort to keep art alive during COVID quaratine, Webster Arts created a series of virtual classes for kids to follow along with at home. Check out some of the videos from that series below!

DRAWING 101-LINES AND SHAPES
For the Webster Arts Summer Art Camp, we provided sheets of ‘What Is It’ paper so kids could finish a drawing from the prompts. But these exercises line-making and shape-making can be completed on any sheet of paper. All you need are some colored pencils and pieces of paper to make some fun drawings from home.

WEAVING POT HOLDERS
For Week 2 of the 2020 Webster Arts Summer Camp, our Executive Director, Jeane Vogel put together this video on how to weave a potholder. To learn how to weave, each child received a kit that includes a pin loom, loopers, and a crochet hook. The kit also includes instructions on how to turn those potholders into a notebook cover, a bag, or a case for glasses. You can do so much! For children who did not receive a kit, we recommend getting a similar loom and kit at Michaels or another craft store in your area. Thanks for helping us keep art alive!

WATERCOLOR PAINTING
For week three of the Webster Arts Summer Art Camp, we provided children with a set of watercolor paints, watercolor paper, coloring pages, and some instructions on how to work with watercolors. We talked about Warm and Cool colors as well as different watercolor techniques, like wet-on-wet and dry-brush techniques. Even adult artists might learn a thing or two. If your kids are not enrolled in the summer art camp, they can still participate.

CRAFT STICKS AND BASKET MAKING
For Week 4, we are learning how to make a basket out of craft sticks and glue! Craft sticks are available at any craft store.

SUN PRINTS
This week for the Webster Arts Summer Art Camp, we learned the art of Sun Printing. We covered the meaning of the art terms, 'Composition' and 'Photogram' as we learn the process. Children in the camp received a Sun Art Packet and this video gives step-by-step instructions on how to make your very own prints using sunlight. Children not participating in the camp can still try the process by having parents purchase the Sun Art kits online or at a local craft store.

HOW TO MAKE BOWLS WITH MODEL MAGIC CLAY
This week we made coil bowls and pinch bowls with clay. Executive Director Jeane Vogel gave this tutorial on how to work with the model magic clay. She talked about how Native Americans in the Mississippi valley made similar bowls. Model magic clay is easy to find at a local craft store!

FABRIC COLLAGE HOUSE
For the final week of the Webster Arts Summer Art camp, we provided kits for children to make a fabric collage house. Each child received foam brushes, glue, a piece of cardboard, and fabric scraps to create their own image of a house. This project is fun and easy to do if you have fabric scraps and some cardboard laying around. You can also make a still life or a portrait using this collage process. The possibilities are endless. As usual, all supplies are available at a local craft store. And this project makes good use of recycled materials too. Thank you for helping us keep art alive this summer!
